One child goes missing every 40 seconds. The Dunnellon Police Department wanted to do everything in their power to make it possible to find a missing child fast. So the department worked diligently at raising funds to purchase and implement a child safety identification program.
Many local companies and individuals supported this worthwhile program, including, Boomtown Media, Calypso Kettle Corn, Community Thrift Shop, Crime Stoppers of Marion County, Dunnellon Fire Department Volunteers, Dunnellon Masonic Lodge No. 136, Fero & Sons Insurance, Historic Village of Dunnellon, Rainbow Rivers Club, Dr. Nikhil Shah – Marion Medical Center, Superior Bank, WalMart, John Wampler, and the Women's Club of Dunnellon. The Child Identification Card Program is a community service initiative providing parents and guardians with a tool they can use to help protect their children. The identification cards contain a photo, physical characteristics and fingerprints of their children that are then kept at home by the parent or guardian. If ever needed, this identification card will give authorities vital information to assist their efforts to locate a missing child.
A special thanks goes to Roger Free, Chief of Police, Sergeant Joanne Black, and Corp. Jacob Gonzalez for their dedication and leadership. The Department will continue to work within the community to raise awareness of this program.
If you want to contribute to the continuation of this program or host a child identification event, contact Dunnellon Police Department at 465-8510.
